Welcome to the Delmarva Almanac

The Delmarva Almanac, a digital regional culture and nature magazine, is no longer being published. This site was an independent media service which published content pertaining to the region known as Delmarva: all of Delaware, and the Eastern Shore counties of Maryland and Virginia.

Beginning in 2015 the Delmarva Almanac became a half hour radio show on Delmarva Public Radio. The shows are archived so you can still listen to them by clicking here. Weekly, for two seasons, listeners met local artists, heard about local history and nature, and got connected to the latest cultural events here on the shore.

These fascinating videos remain available via YouTube. Information contained in them about public events and/or reference links were accurate at the time the videos were produced. There should be no expectation that such information continues to remain valid.

Our Content Contributors

Dana Kester-McCabe was the primary writer, photographer, designer, and publisher of the Delmarva Almanac. As an artist she has designed graphics for print, video, and internet. Dana has writen for public relations, advertising, and news, as well as fiction. Dana's current focus is on fine arts painting and writing novels which can be found at Moonshell Productions.

Jim Rapp is a naturalist and tireless promoter of nature and heritage travel experiences on Delmarva. He has served as the Executive Director of the Salisbury Zoological Park, and as the Executive Director of Delmarva Low-Impact Tourism Experiences (DLITE). In 1995, Jim helped found and manage the award-winning Delmarva Birding Weekend, which he continues to organize for the last weekend in April each year.

H. Scott Duncan, is a master gardener and beekeeper living in Salisbury, Maryland. Scott has a PhD. in anthropology from the University of California at Los Angeles. He has been the Country Director for the United States Peace Corps in Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and the Republic of Georgia, Director of Development for the American Friends Service Committee, and as a volunteer classical music program announcer on WSCL.

Keyanna Bowen is a Howard University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism and Communications. She is a professional writer and blogger experienced in developing editorial content for print and online media as well as web content. Keyanna is an accomplished photographer and has her own blog about interior design and fashion at eastandlane.com.

Marilyn L. Buerkle was a Visual Information Specialist and Lecturer at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. She has a master's degree in Journalism and Public Affairs from American University and a B.A. in Speech Communication from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She is the former Station Manager and News Director of WBOC TV.

Dave Wilson began his career as a print journalist. Dave then spent more than two decades building bipartisan relationships with both business and conservation communities to restore the coastal bays watershed, promote tourism, and protect birdlife as public outreach coordinator then executive director of the Maryland Coastal Bays Program. An avid birder, Dave was part of the team that developed the highly successful Delmarva Birding Weekends.

Gretchen Hanson was the Executive Chef and Owner of Hobos Restaurant and Bar. She describes her culinary style as Global Eco-Fusion, a celebration of locally sourced foods, and the subtle simplicity of street food from around the world. Each month she will share stories about the changing food tradtions of Delmarva, about food as love, food as healing, and food as community.
